Thermal stress assessment for an Arctic city in summer

Despite the fact, that against background of global warming Russian Arctic is still a region with severe winters and cool summers; likelihood thermal stress conditions in summer also increasing. At same time, urban can significantly affect human heat perception due to appearance island effect other factors. Using example city Nadym (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug), authors have assessed possibility occurrence analyzed its spatial heterogeneity. The article presents detailed modeling results meteorological regime within framework COSMO-CLM model assessment bioclimatic comfort using Physiologically Equivalent Temperature (PET) index Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI). During periods extremely hot weather events Nadym, territory meso- microclimatic mosaicism clearly manifests itself. In anthropogenically altered territories, frequency strong exceed areas by 1.7 times. Urban planning solutions should take into account not only climatic resistance cities winter cold, but be adapted heat.
